Furniture Making Apprenticeship

We are looking to recruit an apprentice to be part of the team at David Glover Furniture.

Furniture makers make individually designed and produced pieces of furniture such as tables, chests of drawers, wardrobes, kitchens, storage and bespoke commercial furniture like reception desks.

Experienced staff can make decisions such as the type of material needed to make components / products, have the ability to follow technical drawings, and the skills to work out amount of materials needed.

Working in partnership with our preferred training provider, Didac, an apprentice would be based at the workshop and learn through hands on training to develop a broad range of skills.

WHAT TRAINING WILL I RECEIVE?

You will learn how to use hand and power hand tools with a number of classical wood machines. Throughout the programme, you will also:

  • prepare drawings from specifications or determine job requirements by examining drawings and specifications

  • produce working drawings, jigs, templates or prototypes for production assembly of products using computer

  • select and prepare timber and manufactured board

  • select correct adhesives for various applicationsTrim and glue joints and fit parts together to form sections of furniture

  • assemble components and fit ironmongery

  • finish items using a range of techniques

  • repair damaged components

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS WILL I ACHIEVE?

As part of your apprenticeship, you will achieve a number of recognised qualifications:

  • NVQ in Furniture / Woodworking (demonstrating your practical skills)

  • Technical Certificate in Furniture / Woodworking (demonstrating your knowledge and understanding)

  • Functional Skills (where appropriate)

DURATION

1 to 2 years to Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2). Additional 1 year to Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)

SALARY

The rate of pay for this role, and potential progression, would be discussed on expression of interest.

START DATE

Start dates are flexible and would be discussed during an interview process.
